Supporting nurses and midwives with Long Covid
The NHS Injury Allowance provides support for staff who sustain an injury, disease or other health condition which is attributable to their employment.
As covid sick pay comes to an end across the UK managers should make sure their staff are aware of this scheme particularly if there is evidence that they likely caught Covid-19 at work.
In the guide for employers it states:
“The civil burden of proof is based on the balance of probability which is defined as more likely than not and should be used to decide if the injury or disease is wholly or mainly attributable to the person’s NHS employment.”
Several people with Long Covid have successfully applied to the scheme but, to date. Most people appear to be turned down but we hope that as covid sick pay ends this may begin to change.
Additional information about how to apply for the NHS Injury Allowance can be found on the Royal College of Nursing website.
