Supporting nurses and midwives with Long Covid
England:
In England the staff terms and conditions of the Covid guidance will be withdrawn on 7th July and staff will transition on to standard sickness absence management procedures from 1st September 2022.
The updated guidance can be found here.
However, in England it is up to individual Trusts to decide whether to follow this guidance.
Not all NHS staff have had access to Covid sick pay. Those working in GP surgeries and many Bank Staff, for example, were not covered by the national arrangements.
Scotland:
In Scotland full pay for NHS staff with Long Covid is ending on 31st August 2022, when staff will move onto their contractual sick leave entitlement. For full details click here.
Wales:
The guidance for Welsh NHS staff was updated on 30th June. Staff on covid sick pay transition on to standard sickness absence management procedures from 1st July.
However, how long you are on full pay, half pay or no pay depends on how long you have been off sick. More information can be found here.
Northern Ireland:
Staff in Northern Ireland are reporting that they received an email on 1st September indicating that they would move on to standard sickness absence management procedures from 1st October 2022.
The old guidance can be found here. We will add the new guidance once it is available online.
